How I Work with CaRMS Applications

I approach CaRMS applications as integrated documents program directors review to assess readiness, judgment, and fit. Every section contributes to that evaluation, not in isolation but as part of a coherent whole.

I begin by reviewing the full application to assess clarity, completeness, and prioritization. I look for how effectively the application communicates training progression, academic performance, clinical exposure, and professional development—using the conventions and expectations specific to CaRMS.

My feedback focuses on:

  • How clearly key information is presented and prioritized
  • Where descriptions undersell experience, create ambiguity, or disrupt flow
  • How wording, structure, and emphasis can better support a strong overall assessment

I provide specific, actionable guidance that shows what to revise and why. You apply those revisions, and—when using Editing & Feedback—I refine the application further in the second round.

CaRMS Application Services

I offer two services for CaRMS applications, depending on the level of review you need.

CaRMS Application Editing & Feedback

Two Rounds of Review

This service provides a comprehensive review of your CaRMS application, with detailed, actionable feedback focused on how program directors will assess your candidacy.

Editing & feedback focuses on:

  • Clarity, structure, and organization across all application sections
  • Completeness and precision of descriptions
  • Wording, emphasis, and prioritization of information
  • Consistency across entries and alignment with CaRMS expectations
  • Areas that undersell your experience or weaken overall impact

You receive specific guidance on what to revise and why. After you apply those revisions, I complete a second round of review to refine the application and ensure it presents a cohesive, well-considered profile.

CaRMS Application Proofreading

One Round of Review

This service focuses on correctness and consistency in language and mechanics.

Proofreading covers:

  • Grammar and punctuation
  • Spelling and typographical errors
  • Subject-verb agreement
  • Pronoun agreement
  • Verb tense
  • Singular vs. plural

Proofreading is intended for applications that are already well developed and only need a final quality check before submission.

David Lombardino, Editor & Consultant

Who You’ll Be Working With

I’m David Lombardino, founder of DLA Editors & Proofers. Since 2008, I’ve worked with medical residency applicants navigating highly competitive application systems, including CaRMS.

My work with CaRMS applicants focuses on judgment, clarity, and prioritization—helping applicants present their training, experience, and trajectory in a way that aligns with how Canadian residency program directors evaluate applications. I’m familiar with how CaRMS applications are read, where strong candidates can lose ground through avoidable issues, and how small decisions in structure and wording affect overall assessment.

Applicants work with me when they want their CaRMS application to reflect precision, organization, and professionalism—without guesswork. My role is to help you understand how your application reads, where it can be strengthened, and how to refine it so it presents you as a serious, competitive candidate within the CaRMS process.
