Common Questions About Working Together

This page addresses practical questions about process, policies, and expectations. If your question isn’t covered here, you’re welcome to email me directly.

Working Together

Will I be working directly with you?

Yes. I personally handle all editing and consulting projects. When you hire me, you work directly with me from start to finish.

How do I know which service is right for my project?

If you’re unsure which service fits your needs, I’m glad to help you decide.

For longer projects (such as book-length manuscripts or documents over 3,000 words), I offer a free sample edit. This allows both of us to assess the level of editing that would be most appropriate.

For personal statements and similar application materials, I can provide a free assessment to determine the best next step.

For larger or more complex projects, we may schedule a brief Zoom meeting to clarify goals and scope.

You are also welcome to email me with a description of what you’re looking to accomplish, and I’ll recommend the service that best aligns with your objectives.

Do you offer a sample edit?

For longer projects, such as book-length manuscripts or documents over 3,000 words, I offer a free sample edit. This allows you to see how I would approach your work and helps determine the appropriate level of editing.

For shorter documents, a sample edit is typically not necessary, though I’m glad to discuss your project by email to clarify fit.

How quickly can you complete my project?

Turnaround time depends on the type and length of the project.

For most editing and proofreading projects of 4,000 words or fewer (outside the Applicants category), turnaround is typically one business day from receipt of deposit.

For Applicants services:

  • Consultation services are scheduled on a first-come, first-served basis.
  • Editing services are returned within one or two business days per round, depending on the delivery option selected.
For book-length manuscripts, a general guideline is approximately 6–8 weeks for 100,000 words. Timelines are adjusted proportionally based on word count.

For screenplays, a general guideline is approximately 4 weeks for 50,000 words, also adjusted based on length.

For other projects, available turnaround options—including Express or Rush Delivery where appropriate—are displayed on the order form.

How will my document be returned?

You will know in advance when your project is scheduled for completion. At or around the confirmed time on the scheduled date, you will receive an email notification.

If a remaining balance is due, the notification will indicate that your project is complete and ready for release upon payment. Once the balance is paid, your edited document will be delivered by email within a few minutes and made immediately available for download in My Account.

If no balance remains, your edited document will be delivered by email at the scheduled completion time and will also be available for download in My Account.

Payments & Policies

What payment methods do you accept?

I accept American Express, Discover, MasterCard, and Visa credit and debit cards, as well as PayPal.

I can also accept alternative payment options such as Zelle and, for those who prefer to pay over time, PayPal Credit and other third-party installment services (such as Klarna).

For corporate accounts, payment by check or direct deposit is available.

Do you charge extra for rush projects?

Yes. When available, Express and Rush Delivery options include an additional fee.

These delivery options are offered for most editing services and are displayed on the order form when applicable.

Express and Rush Delivery are not available for consultation services (which are scheduled on a first-come, first-served basis) or for books or screenplays.

What is your cancellation policy?

If you submit a project but have not yet paid the deposit, you may cancel at any time.

Once the deposit has been paid, cancellation is no longer available, as work begins upon receipt of the deposit.

If you need to cancel before payment is made, you may do so through My Account or by contacting me directly.

Can unused package rounds be refunded?

No. Multi-round services are structured and priced as complete packages, and refunds are not issued for unused rounds.

The number of rounds included in a package reflects the maximum typically required to complete the service effectively. In many cases, fewer rounds may be needed, but the package pricing remains the same.

Can I update my document after submission?

Yes—you may update your document at any time before the required deposit has been paid.

Once the deposit has been made, work begins, and no further changes to the submitted document can be accepted.

Scope & Boundaries

Do you offer ghostwriting or copywriting?

No. I provide editing, feedback, and consulting services. I do not write content on behalf of clients.

Can you edit only citations, references or footnotes?

I edit citations, references, and footnotes as part of a larger document.

I do not accept citations, references, or footnotes as standalone submissions.

Do you guarantee your work?

I guarantee that your project will be completed by the agreed-upon deadline and handled with professional care and attention.

I cannot guarantee grades, publication, acceptance to a program, or any specific outcome.

If you identify an error in my work, I will review it and correct it at no additional charge.

Can you provide a letter certifying that my document has been edited?

Yes. Upon request, I can provide a letter confirming that your document has been professionally edited.

This letter verifies that editing services were performed; it does not constitute endorsement of the content or its conclusions.

Confidentiality & Standards

Will you add content to my document?

No. My editing and proofreading services are limited to revising and commenting on the text you provide.

I do not add, create, or develop new content. If information is missing, incomplete, or unclear, I will point that out and indicate what needs attention, but the content itself remains your responsibility.

What style guides do you follow?

By default, I follow Merriam-Webster Unabridged for spelling, usage, and style.

I also edit in accordance with AP, APA, Chicago, MLA, and Turabian style. I am comfortable editing in AMA style when required.

If your institution, publisher, or organization uses a specific style guide or internal standard, I can follow those requirements when provided.

How do you handle confidentiality?

All documents and personal information are treated as strictly confidential. I do not sell, share, or disclose client materials to third parties except as required to operate and maintain the service or as required by law.

Project files are stored securely and accessed only as necessary to complete your work.

I am also willing to sign a non-disclosure agreement (NDA) when requested.
