Applicants I Work With
I work with applicants for medical residency and medical fellowship who are competing for highly sought-after programs and specialties, as well as candidates who need to overcome red flags or other weaknesses in their applications in order to match successfully.
For medical residency, this includes international medical graduates and U.S. medical graduates applying to programs in the United States and Canada—often applicants with one or more adverse elements in their medical school experience or application.
For medical fellowship, I work with applicants who completed or are completing residency training in the United States and are applying to fellowship programs in the United States, as well as candidates from Saudi Arabia applying to fellowship programs in Saudi Arabia or Canada.
A significant portion of my work involves applicants with red flags, including:
- Prior failure to match
- More than 3 years—and especially more than 5 years—since graduation from medical school
- Low Step scores or failed attempts
- Poor academic performance
- Extensions, leaves, gaps, or breaks in medical education due to remediated coursework
- Extensions, leaves, gaps, or breaks in medical education due to health issues
- Change in medical schools
- Lack of experience relevant to the specialty
- Lack of U.S. clinical experience
- Age (being an older candidate)
I’ve done this work since 2008, reviewing thousands of applications—including ERAS applications, personal statements, and letters of recommendation—and preparing applicants for interviews at highly competitive programs. My understanding of how program directors evaluate applicants comes from years of direct work with candidates, long-standing professional relationships with physicians and program directors, and sustained experience helping applicants where strong credentials alone were not enough.
Applicants come to me when the stakes are high and the margin for error is slim—whether they are trying to overcome a prior failure to match, address significant red flags, or ensure their application presents the strongest possible version of who they are and what they bring to a program.
